Police and crime commissioner David Keane said: “As police and crime commissioner, I am fully committed to working with partners to share estates that make policing more accessible to the public where it benefits public finances and operational delivery.
“This commitment has been delivered through my initiative to provide a police base in every community in Cheshire and I have also spearheaded the collaboration with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to share a number of joint bases, including headquarters in Winsford.
“Over the last 12 months, Cheshire Constabulary has been exploring opportunities for a joint police and fire base in Crewe. Unfortunately, this is not financially viable and the Constabulary is now looking at alternative options for Crewe Police Station.
“I have asked the chief constable to prioritise this to ensure the police facilities in Crewe provide increased accessibility for local residents and are fit-for-purpose for modern-day policing.”
