Cheshire Constabulary has pulled off a major coup in unveiling its newest crimefighting hero – Father Christmas!

Recognising the Force’s commitment to being here for justice, the jolly man in red has taken time out from his duties in the North Pole to help officers trace some of the county’s most prolific offenders.

Part of the Constabulary’s ‘All We Want For Christmas’ campaign, Father Christmas kindly agreed to take part in a series of videos appealing for the whereabouts of offenders and suspects who continue to evade police, and urging them to face up to their actions.

Over the next few weeks, the videos will appear on the Constabulary’s social media channels and feature the faces of those on his ‘Naughty List’. It is hoped that people will recognise these people, and provide vital information to officers.

He said: “Of course, this is a very busy time of year for me and my elves as we get ready to deliver presents to all the boys and girls of the world.

“But when I heard that Cheshire police needed my help I was only too happy to oblige. I’ll be visiting all the good boys and girls in Cheshire in a few weeks’ time, but in the meantime I’ll be focusing on those who might not have been so good this year. I hope my messages will be seen and, together, we can help the police to deliver justice.”

The videos will be posted on the Constabulary’s Facebook and Twitter pages, while the ‘naughty list’ will also be placed on the Constabulary’s website.

Superintendent Jon Betts, Head of Criminal Justice and Custody, said: “We regularly appeal to the public for information that can help us as we try to track down our most prolific offenders who seem determined to evade us. At this time of year, thieves are doing their own brand of shopping too.

“We’re having a little bit of fun but there is a serious message behind this campaign. Individuals who try to evade the courts are denying victims their chance to see justice done and this can often leave many of those affected by crime unable to move on with their lives.

“We remain committed in our pursuit of those who believe they are above the law - and ensuring they are held to account for the crimes they have committed.”

The 'Naughty List' marks the launch of the Constabulary’s festive campaign. Other areas that will be covered over the coming weeks include serious acquisitive crime (robbery, burglary, car crime etc), public space violence, drink-driving, cyber-crime and domestic violence.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire David Keane said: “Christmas should be a wonderful time for everyone, but I know that this time of year can also bring misery to those who suffer at the hands of selfish criminals who think it is acceptable to ruin Christmas for others for their own personal gain.

“I’m encouraged to see Cheshire Constabulary is doing what it can to keep people safe and avoid becoming victims of crime. I urge everyone to take heed of the advice and messages that will be issued in the coming weeks.”
